Jr. High Guidelines

ASSIGNMENT NOTEBOOK/BINDER:
Students are to keep track of homework, project due dates, reminders, etc in their planner.  Assignment notebooks and binder are to travel to each class with the student and be taken home for parent review each evening.  Students are to record assignments daily.  These can be found on the board or assignment board in every teacher’s room.  Students may not tear out the pages of the assignment notebook.  All pages should remain intact as a record of the school year.  Conduct cards, missing/late assignment cards and hall passes must be in assignment notebooks at all times. See separate sheet pertaining to binder.

BACKPACKS:

Please keep backpacks free of clutter, garbage, dirty gym clothes or forgotten food items.  Students will carry their backpacks from class to class and keep their binder, books, and materials with them. Chromebooks must always be carried inside of the backpacks and kept safe from dropping.

BOOKS:

All textbooks must be kept covered.  All textbooks should have the students name in the front.  Religion textbooks should be covered with a “Trapper” style folder.   Students are responsible for the care of their textbooks and library books.  Please keep track of your items and keep them in good condition.

CELL PHONES:

Students who bring cell phones to school must keep them in their lockers and keep them turned off.  No student may have cell phones in their pockets or pencil bags.  Students who have a phone will have it taken away.  They will be placed in the office where they can be retrieved by a parent.  Consequences will occur.

COMPUTER POLICY:
Students may use classroom computers only with teacher permission.  Please ask before use—this includes use during indoor recess.

GYM CLOTHES:
Please be sure to put your name in all gym clothes, sweatshirts, etc. Students are to take gym clothes home after each gym class for washing.  Students may not share gym clothes.  Students are not to bring body sprays (AXE, TAG, Bath and Body, etc.).   These can cause issues for people with breathing problems.  They will be taken and not returned if students have them.  Students should bring deodorant to use after gym class.

BATHROOM PASSES:

Students who wish to leave the classroom to visit the bathroom must have their bathroom pass hole punched by a teacher.  Students will have a reasonable amount of punches available each month.  Passes with unused punches remaining may be turned in for an out of uniform pass.  If a student loses a bathroom pass, a new one will be given, but the student will miss a recess.  No student may have more than one hall pass at a time.

HOMEROOM:
Students should be unpacked and in their seats by 8:15. This means coats and bags should be hung up, and things for change of class are ready to go. There is no room hopping to visit friends; once you are in homeroom, you must ask to leave. If you need to see a teacher, you must get permission. Students may not roam from floor to floor nor congregate in the locker areas.

HOMEWORK:

Studies show that students retain more information (as high as 85% more in some cases) just by reviewing notes nightly. Students are encouraged to review science and social studies notes, in particular, each evening.  Math homework is given nightly.

LATE OR MISSING HOMEWORK:

All teachers will follow the junior high policy for late and missing homework.

HOMEWORK BUDDIES:
Students must choose a homework buddy and backup homework buddy.  Homework buddies must be in the SAME HOMEROOM as the student.  Parents must approve of the homework buddy a child chooses.  Be sure your buddy is RESPONSIBLE. Buddies should check for each other everyday. Teachers will have “While You Were Out” papers for buddies to use in gathering assignments.

Students are to get “While You Were Out” papers signed and return them to the homeroom teacher upon returning to school.  This is designed to assist students whose Homework Buddies fail to properly list an assignment which results in an error on your child’s part.

Students will have the same number of days they were absent to complete assignments.  For ex. if a student misses one day, the student is expected to turn in work on the day after their return.  Tests/quizzes that were assigned for the first day of an absence will be made up immediately upon returning to school.  All previously assigned projects and work are due upon the student’s return.  Extended absences may require test dates to be organized by the teachers for student success.

LOCKERS:

Students’ personal belongings are kept in their lockers during the school day. Students are encouraged to bring combination locks for their lockers. If you bring a lock, your homeroom teacher must have the combination.

SCHOOL SUPPLIES:

No student should have Sharpie Markers or White Out.  If these supplies are needed students may obtain them from a teacher.  Items will be taken if students bring them to school.

Please keep a check on supplies. Everyone is expected to have his or her own paper, markers, pens, etc. Remember that gel pens are not used on assignments. Math is done in pencil and all other assignments are to be done in dark blue or black ink only.

STUDENT INFORMATION:

your child has a medical problem or condition that teachers should know about please inform us. It is important for the safety of your child that we are aware of potential problems. If there is a change in medication it is also helpful to let us know.  At times, there are circumstances in families or at home that weigh heavy on students’ minds.  Please feel free to communicate anything you think may be pertinent to your child’s success.  We are here to assist.
